Not Far From The Car
1989 - 1999
These 24 x 36 inch images were first printed for an exhibition at the Richmond Art Gallery in Richmond, BC. They were my first scans to digital output and were generated on an early industrial Ilford Ink Jet printer as CMYK tiffs.
The Richmond Art Gallery News/ Spring 99, describes my work in this quote, “Richard Pelletier finds his art in places where most of us fleetingly drive by, unaware. He goes to the small roadside motels and towns to photograph signs and images of a highway culture and landscape. His images ‘… provoke humour in absurd ways. At times leading the viewer to question and contemplate… a landscape that is traditional and can be viewed from any passing vehicle.’ You could say his work is ironic for he captures the culture of North American roadways. However if you have ever been to a small roadside town, you will probably find Richard Pelletier’s work strangely familiar in the distinctive style all highway towns seem to have.”
